Turn a Page. Touch a Mind.® (TAP-TAM) has been promoting literacy in Kansas since 
2004, and we have given over 500,000 books to Kansas kids since then. One of the very first sites to hand out books was Pediatric Associates of Topeka, which has given over 55,000 books to their patients.
When physicians give TAP-TAM books in the first years of life they encourage families to spend time each day sharing a book. When parents talk, sing, and read to their children early in life they are taking advantage of the most important time in brain development. Hundreds of connections are made in the brain each second in the first years and those connections build the foundation for learning later in life.
